morning is mocking me

Just behind the corner I heard today someone of a beautiful artistic integrity. I bet Laura Marling wouldn't mind playing a song or two together with her. Good. Night.

Please meet the director of the video James Copeman and see more of his works here.

By one in the morning day is not ended, by two he is scared and sleep is no friend, and by four he will drink but cannot feel it, sleep will not come because sleep does not will it and I dont believe him. Morning is mocking me.

it's my nature...

I heard the rain & I saw it. Somehow I didn't feel it. Spring in November by all means.

Please meet the director of the movie Charlie Fink from Noah & The Whale.

good (night) song from Last Lynx

dresinen | draisine

I was reminded today that Norway has some good music to offer. That, combined with our moshi moshi family, gives a satisfying result for this Tuesday evening: Casiokids served chilled and animated. Oh, and let's not forget about learning Norwegian: dresinen | draisine :)

Please meet the creators of the video Seb Burnett and Joe Wood from Rumpus Animation.

if the blackness closes in

And as the dark swallows all around us I only look for you, Summer Camp! Sweet dreams :)

and as the dark swallows all around us
I only look for you
and as the night falls all around us
I'm looking straight to you
and if the blackness closes in
I'll be waiting here for you

you give me life

consequences | awkard places

I got some nice yellow energy today, finally got myself a tiny, tiny, tiny notebook that I've always wanted to have and at the end of the day reminded myself of this band: Reptar. Did I mention this already? Oh yes, I did. And all that happened on Tuesday. Good. Night.

and all the consequences spent to all the awkward places
sent to all the awkard places I am too

counting | wisely and slow

Well, it's official. There is nothing more soothing than the harmonies of The Staves. After almost a year from my discovery and seeing them life during my London visit, their debut album is finally available today. And just for the record: they don't live in a log cabin :)

brother, you will never know
all the things I did for you
many years ago

(...) tell me all you need to tell
why is it you whisper when you really need to yell
troubles in tow
go wisely and slow

ethereal | eternal

Tidal wave is coming to close my day. Suitably enough. Somehow cleansing and ethereal. Ephemeral? Far from it. Eternal? Most likely. Husky. A band to be heard of

Please meet the director of the video Celeste Potter. For more video works click here.

I climbed aboard a tidal wave bearing down upon the city from the ocean
They said it would come any day like a monster of perpetual devotion
I was surfing it clear
I was crashing through the city streets where we once went looking for love

I'd change my name if I had one to change

I'd change the world if I wasn't so plain
I see your eyes in my eyes suddenly

the wandering days

As I've made a habit of wandering around Australia these days, it's high time to be accompanied by Tame Impala during this evening walk. It definitely doesn't feel like walking backwards. On the contrary: it's a juicy aesthetic follow-up of Tame Impala's previous step.

Please meet the directors of the video Joe Pelling & Becky Sloan.

(...) May call back a thought of
The wandering days,
And, blending with each
In the mem'ries that throng,
There haply shall reach
You some echo of song.

The daylight is dying, Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson

I am Ned

I like simple animation, minimal design and hot soup. I strive to make films that intrigue. That's a man after my own heart. Please meet the director of the video Ned Wenlock.

merry melodies | loony tunes

The sound of Hecuba blends magically with the vision of Isaiah Seret and Jon Beasley. Bliss.

Credits for visual effects go to Benjamin Kutsko.

I wanna watch cartoons with you

Australia revisited

I revisited Western Australia and walked along the Rabbit-proof fence right to Jigalong. Just like I did a decade ago. Now with Young Magic from New York but originally from Australia and Indonesia I visit the East Coast of Australia where the video was shot. It's a sublime blend of sound and vision. Good. Night.

Please meet the director of  the video Dylan Wiehahn.

...and I need your shelter

make it light all day

I've been hunted by this tune for the last 24 hours. Will I start worshipping them? Cults from New York. Slightly sinister. Cheerful and pop. That's the blend I like most. More than perfect.

Please meet the director of the video Isaiah Seret. Read what inspired him to create the video here, read also his comments and reflections on the project.

I really want to go out
I really want to go outside and make it light all day

good (night) tune from Chilly Gonzales

Closing the day with Chilly Gonzales. Good. Piano. Good. Night.

Ain't I A Woman?

I hesitated for a long while. I thought that this time I'd prepared myself but you can't simply do that. I knew that the moment I press the play button something unearthly beautiful would fill the space around me. Like it was last time. Well, and so it did this time as well. Turn off everything that may disturb you and channel Ayanna's stories towards your zone.

Read more about Sojourner Truth here. For more info about WEYA Festival click here.

That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches, and to have the best place everywhere. Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place! And ain't I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain't I a woman? I could work as much and eat as much as a man - when I could get it - and bear the lash as well! And ain't I a woman? Sojourner Truth, read the whole speech here.

going from A to B | going home

Sweet stink of the hookah, couscous, kebab, exhaust fumes of a bus deadlock. 98, 16, 32, standing room only - quicker to walk! Escapees from St Mary's, Paddington: expectant father smoking, old lady wheeling herself in a wheelchair smoking, die-hard holding urine sack, blood sack, smoking. Everybody loves fags. Everybody. Polish paper, Turkish paper, Arabic, Irish, French, Russian, Spanish, News of the World. Unlock your (stolen) phone, buy a battery pack, a lighter pack, a perfume pack, sunglasses, three for a fiver, a life-size porcelain tiger, gold taps. Casino! Everybody believes in destiny. Everybody. It was meant to be. It was just not meant to be. Deal or no deal? (...) Leaflets, call abroad 4 less, learn English, eyebrow wax, Falun Gong, have you accepted Jesus as your personal plan? Everybody loves fried chicken. Everybody. Zadie Smith, N-W

beginning with C

November. Fog. That's the sweetest thing. I am surprised this band beginning with C appears here only now even though it's been in my player for years. "The great thing about Camera Obscura is that they both celebrate and comment on that idea of what pop actually is. The pop song in a way is (...) the perfect encapsulation of the giddy excitement and the giddy disappointment of love itself. That's why Camera Obscura is such an extraordinary pop group." Please see below the short movie presented by Paul Morley and directed by Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard.

The Sweetest Thing video was directed by Blair Young. See more works of him and Beth Allan from their production company The Forest Of Black here.

you challenged me to write a love song

blind chance

I didn't catch the tram. Or actually it didn't stop. What happens next on this raft of brand new beginnings?

When nobody talk and everybody listens: see more Sofar sessions here.

Early in life it is a joy. because the light seems so near, so reachable. Finally, it brings bitterness. We can see how it has receded. I have been through much these forty years. I see that the light has receded. But I should not discourage you. You can be sure of one thing. Without that bitterness, that hope... life would be lamentable. Blind Chance, Krzysztof Kieślowski

back to life

(...) We're alone in the field, always at a distance. And people appear and disappear from your life. Grief comes in the form of much larger thoughts; it's more philosophical and it leads to a confused state of mind. (...) It's a pullback from details and it's grand and isolating. Feist.

Please meet the director of the video Keith Megna.

from there we climb the goldenhill, call and they will eternally
I held your hand, the giant wand; alto low song
and history begins to be blue and brown eyed
