inner city blues
Monday feels like Thursday. Good enough. Odd and confusing spring days.
rockets, moon shots
oh, make you wanna holler
the way they do my life
make me wanna holler (...)
hang ups, let downs
bad breaks, set backs

the divine ones
Thursdays are by their very nature always quite special. Especially in April I guess.
I looked up from my reading. The first number on the record was done. The phonograph needle was now scratching its slow way across the void to the second. The second number, I learned from the jacket, was "Dragon Blues."
Meade Lux Lewis played four bars alone-and then Angela Hoenikker joined in.
Her eyes were closed.
I was flabbergasted.
She was great.
She improvised around the music of the Pullman porter's son; went from liquid lyricism to rasping lechery to the shrill skittishness of a frightened child, to a heroin nightmare.
Her glissandi spoke of heaven and hell and all that lay between.
Such music from such a woman could only be a case of schizophrenia or demonic possession.
My hair stood on end, as though Angela were rolling on the floor, foaming at the mouth, and babbling fluent Babylonian. Cat's Cradle, Kurt Vonnegut

rearrange your philosophies
Musicians teach no nonsense, I tell you. You can learn a lot from Asa and no wonder that musically she blends things like a pro. But that's what happens when you've been exposed to such artists as Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, Ebenezer Obey, Sunny Adé, Fela Kuti, Lagbaja... The list just keeps going on and couldn't get more positive. Well, after all: Nigeria is the happiest place on earth. So as a Yoruba saying goes: Jimoh to ma l'oyin, Alamisi le yan ma ti mo, which roughly translates as: "If a Friday is to be sweet, you'll know by Thursday." I always knew that there is something special about that day :) Good. Night.
you suppress all my strategies
you oppress every part of me
what you don't know, you're a victim too
mr jailer
if you walking in a market place
don't throw stones
even if you do you just might hit one of your own
life is not about your policies all the time
so you better rearrange your philosophies and
be good to your fellow man jailer

who's this inside of me
Even Thursday can have a false start. But you can always restart a day whenever you want. Regardless the time. Today my Thursday starts after 11pm. I sense it's going to be a good one with Martin de Thurah delivering another good visual. Plus St. Vincent and David Byrne (they both know how all this works and additionally Byrne puts it into a book). What else we can ask for? Divine. Good. Vibes. Good. Day.
who’s this?! inside of me
who made a big mistake
who sees these constellations
seen in those spinning round

last time we spoke
Thursday is always such a great day. Full of prospects of the upcoming days off :) Slow Club knows how to make it even more cheerful. Well, at least melodically. Lyrically it's slightly bitter. But that's the blend I like the most.
last time we spoke I thought we were through
I found a map
(...) look me up in some phone book
under Me and You

out of town
Skipping Record Store Day and running away from the city for the weekend. Packing chaos eased by the liberating feeling of Thursday evening.
The Walkmen's Heaven will be released by Fat Possum on June 5.

The best is yet to come
Being on a quest to find an answer to my multi-culti/linguistic identity dilemmas, I find it quite soothing to confront artists like Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart who are embracing multiplied music alter egos. I would probably do the same if I were blessed with some music talent. "The best is yet to come" is an adequete phrase for my fav time of the week - Thursday evening that's heading towards the weekend. Bruno takes us back to the vintage funk era yet we stay so freshly tuned. It's 2011 and that's the official tune of the upcoming spring. Ooooh, get funky!
