zagrajcie muzykanty | spiritual revival

The 21th Yach Film Festival of music videos starts this weekend in Gdańsk. I've been tuning for that for many weeks now. Here's a retrospective view: video from Kapela Ze Wsi Warszawa that was nominated to Yach in 2008. Please meet Yach Paszkiewicz, the father of the festival. Spiritual revival to you all! Good. Vibes.

Please meet the director of the video Jacek Kościuszko and see more of his works here.

when I get a little scared

Dear diary, I got a bit scared yesterday. And I strayed. Luckily my older sister came to town.

Please meet the director of the video Jamie Travis and see more of his visual works here.

I just want back in your head

yellow vibes | espresso vibes

In need of morning yellow vibes. This one works quite effectively as my morning music espresso. Compact and essential.

a band in our cellar

It actually can get better. As long as we stick to Denmark and the colours in the air.
A powerful day closed by The Rumour Said Fire. Good. Night.

Please meet the directors of the video Graham Dorey and Andreas Munksgaard.

a good (night) song from Anna Calvi

after 27 | still 27

Twenty-seven days of August loaded with a lot twists. Now all behind. Managed to solve a few mysteries of today, fought back successfully Tuesday's boredom. All with good people around. Now closing the day and happy to discover another collaboration of  Them Bird Things with Lawrence Dolkart. They match. Excellently.

See more works of Lawrence Dolkart here and read more on Robert Johnson here.

good (night) song from Violas

A new band to watch and to close the day with. Violas are releasing their new EP Nos Somnia tomorrow. What a dreamy start of the last week of August. Good. Night.

There was this abundance of sun that I was puzzled by today. I got stuck by the seashore. Recorded a few sounds. There were no violet colours. And then the rain came.

dreams-come-true gig

"You're late", she said.
"According to whose clock?", in my time zone I was perfectly on time. A warm late summer evening and a concert a few blocks from my place. So why worry?

jazzpospolita

Sketching out a sneaky plan of visiting Warsaw later on this autumn. Sketching out a storyboard. Picking up a suitable note. Feeling small. Yet with strength.
Jazzpospolita, here I come.

o que c'est beau schön prittie prittie

"Zoe Keating playing her cello in the middle of San Francisco International Airport. On her way to play, Zoe opens up about the places she's been fortunate enough to visit and play, because of her music. A cello festival in Beauvais, the opera house in Sydney, Zurich, the New Mexico desert for the gasoline-laden simulation of a nuclear bomb, the list goes on." Read more on the story here

no flagman ahead

From the depth of my player I dug out old tunes of Tab Two. Overwhelmed by the sultry surroundings. Now with these trumpet and bass sounds things feel crystal clear.

back again, into, under, far in between, through it...

Terence Blanchard is the inside man of the movie sounds. He's edging the grid lines. Following the rule of thirds. Impeccably. Sharply.

(...) life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. (...) The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, and above. like being tranquilized

It felt long to wait for Yeasayer's new album. Now it feels more tranquil when it's finally available.

When the vision and the sound leave you in awe: it's when Anna Calvi and
Ian Pons Jewel meet. And then they get unreleased...

Filling up my autumn itinerary. Lots of alternatives. Lots of prospects. Positively. London again? Perhaps. My music map is for sure filled with Kwes now. His debut EP Meantime is out via Warp Records.

on corner stones

I felt it all during Feist's concert at Flow. But then I flowed completely at St Vincent's performance. I was twisted away by the funnel cloud of her music. And so will you with these glasses and saving Jesus on Parisian roofs.

with attitude

She's stunningly talented, beautiful and has great aesthetic taste. What else one should need? Oh yes, she's Canadian. Feist.

Please meet again the director Martin de Thurah and read more about his colaboration with Feist here. (via Nowness).

a good (night) and awesome tune from Francis Bebey

This good night treasure is played on sanza (via Awesome Tapes from Africa).

a room for London

Speaking of going somewhere: London is obviously always a place to go :) Yesterday I teleported myself there through a live stream of Django Django's concert. Tonight I wish to be there to see Slow Club. And tomorrow as well as Moshi Moshi informed about their free gig for BT London Live! For now let's just take a tour in this most intimate venue in London: A Room for London. Oh yes, it starts brilliantly with Canvas and then revolves around sounds from Between Sheets of Imogen Heap. See the Imogen's creative moments in the Room here.

The old river in its broad reach rested unruffled at the decline of day, after ages of good service done to the race that peopled its banks, spread out in the tranquil dignity of a waterway leading to the uttermost ends of the earth.

the colours you hear

So it spreads the colours around you. Pick up the one you hear and sketch.
Do you see how these sounds blend with vision? Oh, it's wicked! Tick, tick, tick, tick...

next summer

It's been a surprisingly great Tuesday given the fact I have a pretty unidentified problem with this day. Even newspapers were more interesting. Although it felt in the morning that summer had really overslept today. I have been striving for some light the whole day. Here it comes: Slow Club. Accurate and unmistakable, as usual. They never let me down.

The video was directed by Charles Watson, Suze Olbrich and Mike Bradley and edited by Sarah Grant from London Sessions Productions.

I know I will be saved, 'cause I always have believed
that there's something more for me when I go.
And there's a city that will heal me and help me clear the lumps out of my throat.
I think that next summer, if we're all still alive, you should try,
we should try to jump into some water and focus on getting high.

más y más

That's a marvellous and soothing duo for a Sunday afternoon: Buika and Chucho Valdés.
And so I blend all my jazz, soul and blues feelings with it. More and more.

Se me hizo fácil borrar de mi memoria
a esa mujer a quien yo amaba tanto.
Se me hizo fácil borrar de mí este llanto
ahora la olvido cada día más y más.

longevity of summer

Speaking of long-lasting summer: I dare to say this summer will be a longevous one even though one may never actually count on it. Yeasayer is however making this happen anyway.

Please meet the creator of the vignette Yoshi Sodeoka.
