free | sweet fruit
New places explored, new people encountered. A good, long talk. And a few short and important ones. Misty, misty evening. And so it is to be the beginning and the end… Melt in Motherland makes it even more liberating. Pure. Good. Blend. Weaving words.

The Brain goes home
"One night The Brain is walking me up and down Broadway in front of Mindy's Restaurant, and speaking of this and that, when along comes a red-headed raggedy doll selling apples at five cents per copy , and The Brain, being very fond of apples, grabs one out of her basket and hands her a five-dollar bill." Damon Runyon, The Brain goes home

morning tea | no sugar
Tea is meant to be bitter, just as beer is meant to be bitter. If you
sweeten it, you are no longer tasting the tea, you are merely tasting
the sugar; you could make a very similar drink by dissolving sugar in
plain hot water. So true. Good. Morning. Good. Tea. Read more here.

something to believe | Terence & Blitz
“It’s hard to think about all the problems in the world without getting a
little overwhelmed. So, a lot of times we just ignore things. I think
Africa has suffered a lot because people choose to remain ignorant,
rather than address the issues that are right in front of our faces.”

the music I’ve always wanted to see
The essence captured by Odili Donald Odita and Ilpo Jauhiainen.
“The idea for this composition arose from a desire to create a piece of music around Odita’s poem-like text about colour, the forward to his exhibition, and his voice of such particular cadence (...)
I had become better acquainted with his hard-edged, abstract colour paintings a few months back, thanks to a feature here on Another Africa, and had been instantly uplifted and inspired by them: besides offering new, exciting ways to feel and think about the world they seemed to suggest new forms of music to me; in a way, they were the music I’d always wanted to see." Please read more via Another Africa.
Color
should not be submissive
It cannot be subjugated
It will not obey
It should not play nice
Color is unruly
It is not for the faint of heart
It can be hard and strong
It can be bold
It can be clear and true
It can also lie
It can trick and deceive us all
Color does what it wants
It misbehaves
But most importantly,
Color can change our minds

in her new house
Resonating. Soothing. Promising. Feeling very comfortable in the house of Astrid Swan. And so should you.
she | a way out of the blue
It's a very haunting version of Laura Mvula's song She. It's a way out of the blue.
she walked towards you with her head down low
she wondered if there was a way out of the blue (...)
she's tired, but she don't stop

Well, it shouldn't come as a surprise but I'm in a soul mood. Michael Kiwanuka is the air. Not only for today. True. Spirit. What is soul? Hear yourself.

to close softly the doors
...learning to close softly the doors to rooms we will not be coming back to... stands as a motto of Tough Love Recordings. Couldn't be more suitable for this time of the year. Just as Fun Adults couldn't be more suitable with their video. It does suffice my hunger for colours today.
Please meet the director of the video Dan W Jacobs (of the band). Animation by Dan W Jacobs and Huw Thomas.

tunnel vision
A retrospective look into Django Django sound. That how I want to see it.
that how you want to play it
break my heart and go home
why'd you want to go do that, but we're not even in the way
tunnel vision, never listen, no we're never going home
that how you want to play it

why'd you want to go do that, but we're not even in the way

fun fun fun
Now... Speaking of giraffes and other creatures, let's have a look at Laura Gee's illustrations. A pure feast for the eyes. One of her work is a "face" (quite literally) of a new label Handsome Dad Records that delivers a new tune from Fun Adults. Fun. Fun. Fun. Good. Fun.
Please support the artists and purchase their work: Laura Gee & Fun Adults.

nevermind, I've lost you
how can I tell if I love you anymore
nevermind, I know I do

still human
As Vonnegut said "Evolution was so creative. That's how we got giraffes." Wondering quite often that evolution played kind of a cruel joke on humans. Still. Daughter's new tune is again a good one. Complete. Good. Night.
underneath the skin there's a human
buried deep within there's a human
and despite everything I'm still human
waking up like an animal
I'm all ready for healing

escapism
For the beginning of a new month: Simphiwe Dana. Divine. Rich. In my escapism.
The video was directed by Emma Willis.
Escapism
Poetry in one word
This one word is my refuge
Realist that I am
It gets too much
It all gets too much
Smile stretched to breaking point
Bones melting inside my resolve
The seeing is for a few
For the rest it is business as usual
Partaking in the feasting
Feasting on life
The takers are everywhere
When everything has been devoured
They will feast on themselves
Such is the nature of their wiring
It is all around me
This nature that I must escape
Setting doubt to my convictions
That we can be great again
The world has changed so much
We have changed the world
Sculptured it into our image
Even our gods are corruptible
Shaped in our image
They did say we would police each other into silence about the things that really matter
It doesn’t matter now
It is done
My one word poetry has been desecrated
Despondency is the only unoccupied space in my escape
