cause on the surface the city lights shine

This song was inspired by the book Mountains Beyond Mountains ... If you haven't read it yet you can pick it up here (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0812980557/?tag=partnersinhea-20), or at your local bookstore. Or if you would like to give to Partners in Health - the organization the book talks about - you can go here (https://donate.pih.org/page/contribute/donate).

Please meet the director of the video Vincent Morisset.

these days, my life, I feel it has no purpose,
but late at night the feelings swim to the surface

cause on the surface the city lights shine,
they're calling at me: come and find your kind

a good song from Anna in the Aviary

An unexpected discovery. A melody that somehow brings summer to my mind. Spacious and airy. Anna in the Aviary. And those paper-clip airplanes as reminiscences of my recent summery trip.

Heading soon back to Flow and preparing myself for the second concert of Lykke Li this summer.

Video from The Lost Session by Ted Malmros.

They simply glowed in the darkness of the tent. The most wonderful and magic moment at Friday's Flow was Warpaint. With an unexpected companion in the audience by my side. Good people find us when we least expect it.

crowd inspired song

Imogen Heap ranks among my favourites. Her concert in November 2010 was probably my best birthday gift ever. She seems to be on the same wavelength as I am. A remarkable artist. It's really inspiring to see how she embraces technology and make the most of it not only in a musical sense but also in a sense of connecting and breaking the barrier between artists and their fans. Now she has embarked on a new project of writing "crowd inspired" song every three months. Exciting! The first one is called "Lifeline". See and read more on Imogen's use of Twitter and other ways of social networking. And why not asking Imogen a question? :)

Hundred times funkier than Black Eyed Peas

I have the best neighbours in town. I just paid a visit to my Ukrainian and Russian friends and they are just irreplaceable! Oh, how I'm going to miss them when I will be living in a new place... luckily I am not moving that far away :). Speaking of Ukraine and moving out - one band comes immediately to my mind - RotFront - Emmigrantski Raggamuffin Kollektiv. It's quite a suitable name. After all my zdies' emigranty (We Are Immigrants Here) as Gretkowska wrote. Get funky!

over borders, over frontiers!

Time travels at illegal speed! (Or was it love as Graham claims?) Having been caught up in a whirl of work and travels I've just realised that it's already mid of July. And today, on the seven day of the week, in the empire of the senses I was somehow brought to the melodies of Sting whose concert I saw exactly ten years ago. As summer approaches I pick up one of Summoner's summery song from the unmistakable The Dream of the Blue Turtles album. Splash, it's the seventh wave, I say!

oh yeah, it's a sunny day!

LCMDF - Future Me OFFICIAL VIDEO from LCMDF on Vimeo.

Snow depth below 7 cm. It dropped suddenly during last two weeks from the simply vulgar and outrageous 57 cm snowdrifts! Biking, dusting off my sunglasses, breathing in. Yeah, yeah, it's a sunny day! Emma and Mia, two sisters from Helsinki, hiding behind the name Le Corps Mince de Françoise, make it feel so much more than ok. Releasing their works under the Heavenly Recordings label, LCMDF is scandinavian to the bone in its good pop sense. Well, it's no too slick. It's dusty enough without causing asthmatic reactions. And it's delightfully vapoury as their video (great work of Philipp Kässbohrer). So she says: good, weird songs should be appreciated. Who? Emma! She says it so right! I appreciate it a lot!

Hey retro girl!

There is a trick with new year's resolutions. In April we no longer remember them and they simply melt away together with the snow. So I had a look on my new year's resolution list. In fact, I was tricky enough to keep it as simple as it gets and there are only two words to be found there: GET FUNKY. It's actually very healthy and easy to stick to that resolution. Especially with such retro, soulful and funky tunes served by Jo Stance from Ricky-Tick Records, a hub of Finnish jazz sounds (Jukka Eskola, Lampela, Five Corner Quintet). So for those with tendencies to get grumpy cuz of a delayed arrival of spring in Finland: get over it and get funky!

in the morning

There is nothing more soothing like waking up on Sunday morning to the sounds of Graham's guitar. Isn't that astonishly beautiful? After leaving Blur, Graham has been successfully following its own artistic way and I've been practically stalking him. Even though, as he admits himself, he might have "released songs that perhaps should have stayed at home on the four track machine", my curiosity towards his works, truly adorable at certain points, will never cease. I guess the name of this blog is just a sufficient proof of my devotion towards Coxon and all his works. The best person to discribe hate-and-love musical/artistic aspects of his works is however Graham himself.

a sweet song from Budyn

An appriopriate joke-song for April Fools' day: deep & profound meaning ;)

muzyka jest wszędzie
i nawet tam, gdzie myślisz, że jej nie ma
a ona właśnie tam jest

music is everywhere
even there where you think there's no sound
it is just right there

writing to Billy

I was in a concert mood this week, yet my music hunger was not satisfied & since yesterday I've been having this unspecified craving for a good song. Luckily I realised quick enough where to look for: Julia Marcell. Treasure. Charming and witted. Lalala. One. Two. I am not listening? No way!

naming a band

I wouldn't mind to have a band one day. I kept wondering of my future band's name tonight while listening to a pretty dramatic performance of Minä ja Ville Ahonen but in the end didn't come up with anything satisfying enough. Minä ja Ville Ahonen make it very clear who's behind the name of the band. It is Minä (which means "me", well not really me ;), I actually met him, it's a guy) and Ville Ahonen in case anybody doubts ;). Let's see how they develop their style. I wish them luck. Meet the director of the video Samuli Laine.

new & shiny

Boys with new shiny shoes are back on track and I am so blissfully happy with their new song. So oneiric. I have this vivid memory of one evening of last summer and its sharp air: standing in front of the scene in Meco, Portugal & being embraced by sounds of Wild Beasts. My favourite band. To all good people thanks to whom I could be there and then: OBRIGADA! E até próxima!

blending in Amsterdam

My recent trip to Amsterdam brought so many spring senses into my life. While biking around (I confess I cherished most of Amsterdam clichés) I discovered one of the best record stores I have ever been - Concerto. What a feast! I could move in there immediately. There I had a great pleasure to discover a band that nowadays makes me dance on my way to work and after hours - Kris Berry. What a vibe! Such a dose of energy is emanating from the debut EP (get it here). It's swinging, it's strong and charming, it's Caribbean, it's jazzy, it's Latin, it's blending positively just like Amsterdam. It's fine! For me spring has officially started. Waiting for more flowers to blossom!

something orange/ something blue

I love orange. I think everyone should have something in orange as it boosts your energy. I have an orange bag that I go with to do my grocery shopping and it's much more fun that way, I tell you. Bathing in orange would be fun, too. Non Tiq together with Mats Udd blend it with blue. I find it appropriate as it slightly reflects scandinavian nostalgia. Other than that "Quiet" is so delightfully slick, pop & fresh and so Swedish. So for shattered nerves here's the advice for today: get something orange & let yourself hear again.

The best is yet to come

Being on a quest to find an answer to my multi-culti/linguistic identity dilemmas, I find it quite soothing to confront artists like Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart who are embracing multiplied music alter egos. I would probably do the same if I were blessed with some music talent. "The best is yet to come" is an adequete phrase for my fav time of the week - Thursday evening that's heading towards the weekend. Bruno takes us back to the vintage funk era yet we stay so freshly tuned. It's 2011 and that's the official tune of the upcoming spring. Ooooh, get funky!

I say something / I say it right / I say "Hi"

For starters one should be polite. So I say "Hi" to everyone through a song by a British band Psapp. My friendship with Psapp's toyish world began while exploring music treasures of Domino Records. Please meet also Arian Franz, a director of this charming video, to see how audio becomes visual.
