stories, rituals, mysteries | creating new reality

Their music cannot be classified into any particular category or trend. Unconventional use of acoustic instruments including zither, dulcimer, udu, kantele, but also stones, sticks, fragments of sheet metal from ships, voice, spiced up with a bit of electro - all this illustrates the world of extra-musical ideas - stories, rituals, mysteries. via Requiem Records

let the river | wash my soul

Cerys Matthews took as always good care of Sunday vibes and today doubled them by broadcasting live from Womad festival. Now, that's a line-up! All that reminded me that I need to update my concert plans for the upcoming weeks. For now I will let Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé, sisters from Ibeyi, haunt all my senses with this video. Let the river...

The video was directed by Ed Morris.

I will come to you river, wash my soul,
I will come to you river, wash my soul again.
Carry away my dead leaves (...)
Let the river take them, river drown them (...)

peekaboo | here's my hideout

Well, there's nothing more joyous than having a chat in a record store with its stuff and discovering some good sounds. From word to word, from artist to artist, from video to video. Here's Zagi teaming up with oly. Surreal. All those sketches in my head fall now into one piece with sounds becoming visual. All that in my hometown. My summer hideout.

The video was created by Joanna Goldman and Maciek Gradkowski. For more sounds from Zagi please click here.

And I will bring the song for you
And I will carry on

surrendering to rhythms

Dusting off old albums, tuning into old favourites radio channels. Couldn't be happier to have Małgorzata Sarbak's album added to my collection on top of that.

For more Lado ABC sounds click here.

In the booklet to her recently released 3CD-boxset of the composer's partitas, harking back to a famous quote by German poet and Bach-contemporary Christian Schubart, she refers to Bach as an 'original genius', describing his music as an exquisite riddle for the brain – in which everything has been expertly planned, organised and designed and to which our body "may give us clues by surrendering to rhythms". via tokafi.com
